RV Lifestyle : Full Timing in an RV

For the past year, give and take, Sheri and I have been going to the RV (Puma) on the weekends.

Recently, April 2010, we decided we would just STAY in the RV full time. We're still paying a lease at an apartment, but we're slowly transitioning to living in an RV.

Puma is a 29ft travel trailer. It pulls like a 36-37 foot fifth wheel but it is a travel trailer so it lacks that extra square footage.

We are pretty sure that we will upgrade to a fifth wheel, but we are going to live in the travel trailer for the foreseeable future until we figure out the critical things we need in a fifth wheel to support our needs.

Living in an RV is different, but not really that much different (of course I'm only 4 days in so far) but it occurs to me to be a much less selfish way of living than a traditional home. For us it is about living simple, living within our means, and living in such a way to reduce our total 'use' footprint on the planet.

I'll write more on this later, but questions like this come to mind?

  • What is the WORST that can happen if living in an RV doesn't work?
  • How much space does a human need for INDOOR space?
  • Why does society wrinkle their nose at living in an RV?
  • Did the census completely miss full-timers? How many do it?
  • What does it mean to not have a permanent address that isn't a slot number?
  • Is living in an RV just like living in an apartment EXCEPT you don't share walls and you BYOH (Bring your own house)?
  • If RV's are bought by so many older folks, why are the steps so darned hard to use?
  • How 'ready to go' should you be in an RV versus setting up around the unit (swings, flowers, etc.)?
  • Will we do a good job of saving the savings from living in an apartment?

Cheers for now. M

I like your questions there. We have our own answers and they most likely would differ from yours in some areas. Everyone comes to this lifestyle with their own agenda, budget, plans, dreams, goals, and needs. It is wonderful!
