You can't argue location on this little park. But, when you see it, the RV's have MELTED into the land they sit upon. I don't think the park rejects any clientele - and you could potentially have someone next to you who is cooking more than fried potatoes. It looks scary - check out the video. Honestly, I would not judge a book by its cover, but...

Driving south out of Lockhart on US 183 about a mile or two, you'll run into signs that take you to the Country Sidewalk Estates RV Park. When Sheri and I went and checked it out, we were suprised at the charm of this little park. I think what struck us most was how the park was designed so that each RV gets its little private space in amongst the trees and bushes. It just looks so darned peaceful. Its really close to Lockhart, Austin and within spittin distance to the Circuit of the America's Racetrack (sometimes called COTA). Sheri and I have put this on the list for places we'd like to spend some time.

If you are in Texas to get away from the cold North, and you really don't need to be close to a big city, then this little park might do it for you. You can go on day trips and cover lots of Texas, but most everything to visit seems to be about 1-3 hours away. You just have to account for that.

RV Park Review - Pecan Grove RV Park Austin Texas

The "almost famous" little RV Park that the city grew around

There are two downtown Austin RV parks that are so famous, at least Austin famous, and so close to the very cool downtown Austin music and nightlife, that they don't have websites and really don't advertise.

What they have is a WAITLIST. Sometimes  if you are lucky, you MIGHT just find an open slot in the off-season.

The Pecan Grove is located within a long walk or short bike ride of Austin's 2nd, 4th, and 6th street entertainment districts - which are honestly seeming to grow together anyway. I've noticed 5th street has some cool things to do as well.

Nearby attractions are the Palmer Event center, Zilker park, Austin Hike and Bike trail. These are VERY near. VERY VERY near. Within 2 or 3 miles (tops) there is the Texas State Capitol, the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, the University of Texas Austin campus. There are 100's of other things I could list, but I'll stop here.

For the video, its a little shaky - I proved that having a driver does help as I tried to film and drive with this park. Embarrassing.

Neat little park, IN THE DOWNTOWN AUSTIN AREA, which I cannot emphasize enough how cool that is. Compared to Pecan Grove, this little park looked better kept but it is much smaller.

One of the neater things is that this is NEXT door to Chuy's. So you can get awesome Fajita's or Chimichanga (Chuychanga), lots of Margarita's and walk home no sweat!

I thought I would list the RV Parks in which we either reviewed (because we stayed there) or created a video drive through review - where you can get an idea of what the park actually looks like. I am a BIG believer in the drive throughs - even though the video is very shaky. You just can't get the same idea by statically looking at a park.

Before I went too far, I've noticed that Amazon has some books that you may find helpful in learning more about Texas and its RV Parks and state parks. You can click on each one to learn more and each provides a different set of idea.



Before you get too rough on me as to what deserves special mention or what Sheri and I liked about a park, you've got to remember that each place has a personal appeal to each visitor. If you like hustle-bustle, then you might not agree with our picks. But maybe, just maybe this will help you get some ideas for your travels.

Greyhound RV Park in Corpus Christi. Probably one of the nicer parks in Corpus Christi. You aren't close to the beaches or downtown (like the Texas Ship Channel, or Texas State Aquarium, or USS Lexington), but you are not too far and staying in a little bit nicer park without all the salt water might not be a bad idea.

Well located RV Park near the coast with great location, great amenities, and CLOSE to the water.

Sea Breeze RV Park in Portland Texas, close to Corpus Christi. Close to USS Lexington, Texas State Aquarium, Botanical Gardens and Nature Center. This little park isn't little. It is big. Its location is such that you can see the water very well. Fishing looks to be nearby and the location looks very quiet. From external appearances, this is one of the nicer parks we've ever driven by.

Honeycomb RV Park is located in Northwest Austin Texas. With the exception of a couple of downtown parks which soon the 'big builders' will have ousted, this little park is very close-in which is amazing. It is located on McNeil Road between 183 and Parmer. A great location if you need to work close to any one of a number of north Austin businesses and stay close. When I drove through getting the video, I was surprised how well kept the park is - it has not declined as sometimes the city RV parks do - especially when they allow mobile homes.

Puerto Del Sol RV Park in Corpus Christi. VERY close to USS Lexington, Texas State Aquarium, King Ranch, Texas coastal Fishing, and Botanical Gardens and Nature Center. But what is really noteworthy about this park is that it is literally on the beach just north of the downtown. You can walk (a long walk) to the USS Lexington. It looks to be as close to the water as you can get without being in the water!

Video Drive By Review : Canyon Trail RV Park San Marcos Texas

Canyon Trail RV Park is located on I-35 near San Marcos Texas. This looks to be a very clean and neat RV Park well situated so that you can explore all the neatest areas in Texas. It is close to Schlitterbahn water park in New Braunfels. It is an easy drive to the southern part of the Texas Hill country (Boerne, Wimberley, Fredericksburg, Gruene). You can zip up to Austin very easily or visit a kid at Texas State University. You are close to San Antonio so you can visit the Alamo or see the races at Retama Park. Houston is within a short 3 hour drive and the coast (Corpus Christi) isn't a big hike either. This is a good place for a base of operations for your Texas exploits. Also VERY close to this park is the Canyon Lake area which might be how it got its name. I don't know, I only speculate.

RV Park Drive by Review : Oak Forest RV Park Austin Texas

Nice RV Park on the East Side of Austin Texas called Oak Forest RV Park. This park is not far from downtown Austin, but more noteworthy is its location close to the Travis County Expo Center . This makes great access for things like the Republic Of Texas Rally (ROT Rally), Travis County Rodeo and much more. Easy access to Bastrop, Elgin, Houston, Waco, and Temple. Not bad for Hill Country access too.

Video Drive By Review : Shady Oaks RV Resort Wimberley Texas

Driving north out of Wimberley we ran across the Shady Oaks RV Resort. We weren't even trying to intentionally make any video rv park reviews in Texas this time! This was a neat treat for a video rv park review because we love Wimberley and this was only about 2 miles out of town. We had to chuckle as the RV park looked like it has a little bar attached to it. That is a first for us - well second - Koyote in Medina had one, but it was a biker place so that makes more sense. If you don't know much about Texas or Wimberley, this is a GREAT location for exploring the Texas Hill Country. Nearby towns are Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Austin, San Antonio, Blanco, Boerne and other neat little places. This was a cute little park and it looked so peaceful.

Video Drive By Review : Idyll Glen RV Park Lago Vista Texas

Idyll Glen RV Park is located on the north side of Lake Travis. It is in a suburb of Austin Texas called Lago Vista. Lago Vista is a perfect eastern gateway to the the Texas Hill Country which is a wonderful area to visit and enjoy. The Texas Hill Country is basically in Central Texas. Notable cities that are either in or near the Hill Country are Austin, San Antonio, Fredericksburg, Mason, Johnson City, Marble Falls, Kerrville, and Boerne. Those are notables, but there are many more - Blanco comes to mind with its beautiful state park.
